rootstock --seed option problem

Asked by

I have a problem when I use rootstock command.
I am not sure what is behind the "--seed" option.
I found many examples from website, for example: xubuntu-desktop, ubuntu-desktop, build-essential,openssh-server, lxde,gdm.
And I guess each option behind --seed means a package list.
So where can I find all options about --seed?
And is there a package list about each option?

Thanks a lot.

The --seed option is basically the list of packages you want to install at your rootfs.

There are some meta packages, that helps you installing the distribution, like xubuntu-desktop, ubuntu-desktop and others. You can also just list any valid ubuntu package you think it'd be good to have at your rootfs, think like running "apt-get install <seed>".

One easy way to grab the package list it going into the repository, and looking for the meta data called "Packages.gz", like There you'll find every package available for the main component (you can also search for universe, multiverse and etc).

Can you help with this problem?
