Care to submit Pogo to the Ubuntu Software Center?

Asked by David Pitkin

Hi Jendik & all,

I was wondering if you would care to submit Pogo to the Ubuntu Software Center, it seems to be a great app and I would love to see it listed!

Well, thanks :) I have looked briefly, but couldn't find any info about
if the standard deb packaging would be acceptable for USC though. Do you
know more?

You will want to submit the packaging source vs the binary deb (tar up the results of dpkg-buildpackage -S) and submit a new application to https://myapps.developer.ubuntu.com and we'll take it from there.

I am not familiar with debian packaging, but I managed to setup daily
builds for pogo ( https://launchpad.net/~pogo-dev/+archive/daily
<https://launchpad.net/%7Epogo-dev/+archive/daily>). Can I take the
.diff.gz, .dsc and .tar.gz files from there? If yes, should I take the
oneiric or precise ones?

Thanks to that pointer Jendrik. Since it's public, I'll get someone to take a look at the package and drop you a note for next steps!

Aye...sorry Jendrik.

A couple of things. First, since your application is GPL when you submit your app via https://myapps.developer.ubuntu.com it will automatically redirect the submission through the Application Review Board process (https://wiki.ubuntu.com/PostReleaseApps/ - has some detail).

Second, the requirements for apps going through this process are that the application must install and run from /opt/extras.ubuntu.com/<appname>. Any userspace storage can be stored in ~/.config<appname>.

Finally, your application looks rather straightforward and the packaging is acceptable after the install location change. You will want to clean up any lintian errors that will arise.

This seems to require quite some work and testing. I don't know much
about packaging, so I think I will have to pass. It would probably be
too much work to maintain two different packagings.

Can you help with this problem?
