Is there a way to set a bottom margin for the dock?

I have adapted the default theme with a bottom padding of 9 and all the fill and line colors transparent in order to raise the dock above the bottom of the screen. It works but the active application indicators are still at the bottom of the screen. Is there a way to set a bottom margin or can this be added as a feature?
