Plank reserves space, maximized windows aren't maximized

MX Linux, XFCE. When I turn off Plank's autohide switch, I expect that the Plamk's icons will always stay above the maximized window. This happens for some windows (Synaptic), but not for others (Firefox, LibreOffice). WIth the latter there is a band of unused space under the maximized window the height of Plank icons. Is there a fix for this? I want to have Plank icons always in the lower middle of a maximized window to switch windows easily.
