Can't drag and drop items on the dock

When trying to drag and drop an application launcher on the dock i get the following error:
[CRITICAL 08:35:46.005273] plank_application_dock_item_real_can_accept_drop: assertion 'uris != NULL' failed
I can only add new items by opening an app and "keep it" on the dock
