Currently this is not intended to happen in any way.

You really should provide some arguments to make this request understandable.
Although it will probably still result in a "Won't fix". ;-)

I completely understand what you want.

You need to give some reasons *why* you want this.

So for now, not showing tooltips does not fit the projects goals.

Only aesthetically, not important for everybody maybe. But important for me. I like simplicity and minimalism, like plank. :)

Already my solution: to change "tooltip instructions" in main theme. But it is a temporary solution. :(

Thank you again. Good night.

OK, the tooltip provides needed information in some cases. So I don't think it is a good idea to provide such an option.

As a side-note, respecting the GtkSetting "gtk-enable-tooltips" would be an option. But it is deprecated and Gtk itself doesn't follow it anymore either. https://developer.gnome.org/gtk3/stable/GtkSettings.html#GtkSettings--gtk-enable-tooltips

I personally don't need a tooltip of a program to flash everysingle time I hover, click, minimize, reduce down, etc when I use a common program that I've been using for a long time and I know full well what the program is. Hover tips are highly annoying and that's my reason for not needing them and making this request. Stock Xfce panel launchers have an option to disable tooltips in advanced properties which lets the user decide to have tooltips or not. Plank seems like a launcher and window button integrated into one program. Would it be that difficult to add the option to toggle info tips on or off, again as in an Xfce panel launcher ? Hover tips don't occur in DockbarX which is fine with me and I was hoping for a simple fix to this annoyance because hover tips get in my way plain and simple and they're an annoyance to my otherwise great experience on Xubuntu. If I knew what I was doing I wouldn't bother this team with my request but rather fork and build my own. Unfortunately I'm not that savvy. I hope this is enough legitimate feedback for you to further consider this option request.

@jason: What about the tooltips showing up when dragging a file/application onto the dock? Imo this is viable information of what is about to happen. So I guess you would want those to stay.

@Rico: I don't drag anything onto the dock, I only "keep in dock" checkmark. It's apparent nothing is going to change in Plank, at least concerning a toggle for tooltips. No matter how I try to justify my position, which was asked of me (see my last post), it won't matter - you'll find some reason to tell me I really do want tooltips and that I should have them for my own good. I won't continue to waste your time or mine. I'll deal with Plank until 16.04 goes stable in a bit less than two months then install DockbarX. Problem solved, no annoying tooltips.

@jason: Try to keep the conversation in a normal tone. I didn't ask *you* for a justification for this request since you are not the one reported this question.

Plank is about providing sane default settings and avoid having options which can lead to a broken interface.

Although I am getting comfortable with the idea of adding a non-gui setting to disable tooltips due to your former comment referring to xfce-panel. Therefore my follow up question regarding the *other* type of tooltips which are describing the "action to be performed on DnD". So imo those would need to show in any case.

Disabling tooltips would be less than ideal from a UX standpoint as hiding information is never a good idea, especially in the case of drag-and-drop. However I'm not that opposed to it being an “option” for those who want to hide tooltips on hover –such as a non-GUI setting as @ricotz suggests.

I'm not concerned about drag and drop, was never a concern for me. I appreciate your consideration with regard to an option to disable hover tooltips. Adding this option would be great.

Can you help with this problem?
