left-click actions

Asked by Simon Langley

I often use 'left click' menus to have several options on a dock item (for example to start firefox on google calendar/maps/gmail rather than my home page for example). At the moment I do this by copying the global .desktop file to my own space and adding
X-Ayatana entry to give short cuts, then I change the .dockitem file to point to my own copy of the desktop file. There must be an easier way .... advice please. Thanks

Not really any easier way...

this somewhat points out a bug in our system. Since we hard code the path to the launcher, if you at a later point provide a custom launcher (in ~/.local/share/applications/) we won't realize it and pick up the changes.

Another choice than editing the dockitem's entry, is to just remove it from your dock. Run the program, click 'keep in dock'. At that point it should be using the new entry.

Thanks for the quick reply (and for plank). I'd wondered if .dockitem had other commands available - it would be a natural place to put shortcuts which might be specific to a particular use - but my rather clunky solution works.
