Can not set order of icons in plank
In the launcherfiles I found "sort=XX". I changed them but nothing happened. Then I accidentally deleted all launchers. After that I made a complete removal of plank with synaptic and reinstalled. Still no launchers so I retrieved them from trash. When I had done that "Sort=XX" was gone from all of them. What to do? Plank works fine but I would still like to rearrange the icons. :-)

Use your mouse, drag them around on the dock.

Thanks Robert Dyer, that solved my question.

Gah! How embarrassing. Did not understand that dragging was supported.
Thank you for helping.

I would like to ask a related question:
How can I change the order of folders on the dock? DnD does not work. With previous revisions of plank I was able to set the "sort" key as referred to by the OP but this functionality seems to have been abolished.
Is there any other way? On that mark, where does plank store these settings, anyway?
Ari (ari-lp) said : | #5 |
Alright, never mind that. I see now that you have to modify the "DockItems" entry in plank's settings file. However, it appears as though plank has to be closed while this is done. Otherwise the settings get reset.
There realy should be a way of DnD a folder.

Theres an open bug about dragging folders.
Set option
LockItems=true
to false in your home directory and ./config/
