how to fix "Pandora does not support your client version"

Asked by jorgenjer

It is not clear from this error message if this is fixable or what action might fix this issue, I don't know where to pull error logs for more information, I tried digging around in your site but didn't see an answer. I do have a Pandora One account. I know I am not the only one experiencing this problem, multiple 1-star ratings in ubuntu software center cite this problem.

Is there a recommended action for this issue? What "version" does it refer to? Should I try an older version? where would that be available?

This is typically caused by an outdated version of Pithos. Pandora updates their service about once a month, which breaks the Pithos client. The developer usually has this fixed within a day. Follow the instructions on the developer's site to get the latest version: http://kevinmehall.net/p/pithos/ (If you're on Ubuntu/mint, this means adding a PPA.)

Maybe we should open an RFE/Bug:

"Pandora does not support your client version" should include a short explanation of the necessity for a PPA in Ubuntu, and a link for download/instructions.

Reason: Ubuntu users are, on average, less tech savvy and less Linux savvy than users of other Linux operating systems.

Pithos 0.3.13 includes a more helpful error message for the next time it breaks.

Previously, it was just displaying the error that the Pandora servers gave it.
