Change notification area icon?

I found these mono icons, both of which are more native to the Ambiance/Radiance themes.

Following the artist's instructions, I'm able to change the icon that shows in the notification pop ups, but not the icon in the notification area. I'm wondering where the notification icon is stored so I can change it to these icons.

The notification-area icon should be /usr/share/icons/hicolor/128x128/apps/pithos-mono.png. You might be also to put a replacement icon named pithos-mono.png under ~/.icons and the theme system will pick it up automatically.
