Is there a reson for not having /bin/pithos be /bin/pithos.py

Asked by Stephen Ostrow

The missing extension plays with some IDEs. Just wondering if there was a need for not having the extension on it.

That's just how Quickly (the Ubuntu project templater that sets up the file layout and packaging automatically) set it up. One reason I see is that it then installs as /usr/bin/pithos so they command is just pithos, not pithos.py. I don't think distutils.auto can rename it when it installs. In theory, a properly-behaved IDE should look at the #!/usr/bin/python line and be able to determine that it's a python file.

Can you help with this problem?
