Fedora 21 support

Asked by Andreas Schöneck

I would like to ask for updated versions of Pipelight that are compatible with Fedora 21.

Rationale:

Latest updates on Fedora 21 (TwentyOne) make it impossible to install Pipelight from Fedora 20 sources

There's an incompatibility with a newer version of libgphoto2:

Hi,

i would suggest using the Fedora 21 repository as described at http://pipelight.net/cms/install/installation-fedora.html which should hopefully fix your problem.

Using F21 repo does not solve the problem.

You could try using --skip-broken to work around the problem
You could try running: rpm -Va --nofiles --nodigest

Same issue here... it looks like the PIpelight F21 repository is broken with the latest Fedora updtes.

I can confirm, that the problem still persists. Workarounds for pipelight users:

As a temporary/ugly workaround you can still upgrade your system (except the broken dependency packages) with

sudo yum upgrade --skip-broken

The more important issue is the fact that you are not able to install pipelight on up-to-date new installation of F21.

As a temporary/ugly (again) workaround you can downgrade conflicting packages

sudo yum downgrade libgphoto2 shotwell sane-backends-libs sane-backends sane-backends-drivers-scanners gvfs*
(downgrading additional packages may be needed depending on your system configuration)

Hopefully, this issue will be fixed soon.

Cheers

Hi,

it seems like i can't do much about this at the moment. The fedora packages are built on the opensuse build servers and I have to wait until they upgrade the libgphoto package in their mirrors. The only alternative would be to rebuild the package on the obs servers or disable gphoto2 support in Wine.

I enforced a rebuild of the fedora 21 packages. Can anyone test whether the problems still occurs?

It's still failing at the moment. I'm assuming that this is a caching issue, though? I will try again tomorrow.

@Andreas

I have the same issue, I found a workaround which is not that bad, remove the package that gives you the error (with yum erase), then install pipelight following pipelight installation guide ;)

I have the very same problem, however --skip-broken is fine until I it's fixed.
Thanks for investigating.

If you do a downgrade (as Tomot suggests) or just uninstall all of those packages (if you don't use cameras/scanners) it will get past the problems people are having.

However, now I get a 404 when trying to download wine-core from either i686 or x86_64! It doesn't work in a browser either, and only with wine-core, none of the other required packages. I tried adding the mirror that OpenSUSE suggests on http://download.opensuse.org/repositories/home:/DarkPlayer:/Pipelight/Fedora_21/i686/wine-core-1.7.36-2.1.i686.rpm.mirrorlist (to http://tux.rainside.sk/opensuse/...) but that also gets a 404...

Strangely the repo/website konws the size and the hash of the file even if you can't serve it.

SO the downloads are working today. Guess it was a server hickup. Pipelight works in Fedora 21 as long as you downgrade libgphoto2 to the base for F21 and not use the version from updates. This causes a lot of other things to uninstalled/downgraded as well, but I don't use them so for me its a non-issue.

However, the overall fix seems to be that an updated system needs to be used to compile it. The OpenSUSE one seems to be Fedora 21 base without updates. Or, if possible, relax the restriction on what versions of libgphoto2 are usable.

I am not to decide on this, but I'd go for what Jeffrey Bush suggests. If there's anything I can do about it, please let me know.

Further some information on the installation page would be helpful, that Pipelight only works on vanilla Fedora 21, not with updates.

I don't have any hope that OBS is going to update the Fedora 21 image any time soon, so I disabled libgphoto support on Fedora 21. This library is only required to automatically detect and handle digital photo cameras in Wine. I honestly think nobody is even going to notice that this feature is missing. Could you please test if the problem is gone now?
