pipelight flash does not work in Google Chrome on ubuntu 14.04

For some reason Pipelight flash works in Firefox but it does not work in Google Chrome (or chromium for that matter).
About:plugins does not list the pipelight flash plugin.

Hi,

the problem you encounter is caused by the deprecation of NPAPI. Chrome (and Chromium on 14.04) have removed support for such plugins, and will only continue to support their own plugins (like Pepperflash) in the future. They are also planning to do the same step on Windows soon, which will also make it also impossible to use such plugins there.

As a workaround we recommend to use firefox (or any other browser that still supports NPAPI). Besides that its also possible to downgrade to an old version of Google Chrome. You can find links and checksums of old versions here:
