Chromium in Ubuntu 14.04 64-bit not loading Sliverlight plugin

Asked by vic longo

Hi,

Followed the instructions to installing Pipelight from projects installation instruction page. Plugin loads in Firefox and triggers .wine upon first run after installation. Unfortunately the same doesn't happen when I start Chromium. No amount of purging and reinstalling both pipelight and chromium packages has resulted in it loading and I have been unable to find any further steps to take to get it to work in Chromium (which I use as default). This is a fresh install of 14.04. I previously had Pipelight installed in 13.10 using Chromium with no issues or extra steps. Any help, suggestions greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Vic

Hi,

your problem is that the Ubuntu maintainers of Chromium decided to backport a change from Chromium 35 on Ubuntu 14.04 which disables / break NPAPI (the plugin API used by all the supported plugins). You can therefore not use the Ubuntu Trusty (saucy would work) version of Chromium 34 with Pipelight, but Google Chrome 34 should work. For more information take a look at the linked bug report.

I was just coming to the same conclusion myself since I realized other plugins weren't loading either and chrome worked fine. Thanks for the quick confirmation!
