Temporary freeze of playback [drm:i915_hangcheck_elapsed]

Hi,

I'm getting these odd frame freezes when watching Netflix. About once every half hour, the video frame freezes for a few seconds, and then everything continues normally. Audio is unaffected. I'm using Ubuntu 13.10 with Intel HD graphics 2000.

Every time the frame freezes, the kernel.log spews out this message:

At exactly the same time, Firefox print this:

err:ntdll:RtlpWaitForCriticalSection section 0x7d930c20 "wined3d_main.c: wined3d_cs" wait timed out in thread 005f, blocked by 005b, retrying (60 sec)

I tried to turn off the GPU acceleration with
PIPELIGHT_GPUACCELERATION=0 firefox
This had the surprising effect of dropping the CPU load by about half to 35% of one core! But still the freezing continues.

Hi Juha,

the problem you have seems to be the same one as here:

But there it was solved by disabling GPU acceleration.

I would assume that the same problem also occurs with other software which makes use of the graphic card. Do you know if this is the case?

Based on some other posts maybe upgrading your graphic card drivers could help.
