Pipelight won't install, dependency error

Asked by Zach Rauch

I had Pipelight installed but it stopped working. I dual-boot with Windows 8 so for a week or so I went back there. I came back to eOS and forgot about Pipelight until I tried to watch Netflix and it wouldn't work. So, I decided to just reinstall Pipelight and hope everything would be fine. When I tried to install Pipelight again though, I couldn't. After I run sudo apt-get install pipelight-multi I just get this message back -
Reading package lists... Done

 pipelight-multi : Depends: wine-compholio (>= 1.7.4-2~)

What can I do to fix this?

You know what, let's just disregard this whole thing. I feel like change so I'm going to install Ubuntu 13.10 now. Maybe I won't have problems there.

Hi,

I would suggest to run the following commands:

sudo apt-add-repository ppa:ehoover/compholio
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get upgrade

with these commands you should hopefully get the latest version of wine-compholio. If you see some message, that packages are hold back, please run afterwards:

sudo apt-get dist-upgrade

Afterwards you can try to install pipelight-multi again. If you get some error messages with any of the commands above, please post them here so we can take a look at it.

Wait! ;-) I wouldn't recommend to use Ubuntu 13.10 yet, it still has to be considered beta. We've already seen a lot of users that had problems with graphic card drivers, user agent switchers, ... I would recommend to install 13.04 instead, and switch to 13.10 when its a bit more stable.

Eh, 13.10's almost finished downloading and I'm not feeling any more patient. I've never had major issues with Ubuntu before so I'll wing it. Thanks for the caution though. If I do have any issues it'll be fun to try and fix them. I could use some more learning.

Can you help with this problem?
