Pipelight and multiple wine installations and choosing which wine

Asked by Walter Zambotti

Configuration

Ubuntu 12.04 LTS
Wine 1.7.4
Winetricks 20130707
Pipelight 0.2.1

In order to test a fix for a specific issue I am having I would like to install Wine-Compholio which has a patch addressing my problem.

Can I install both Wine and Wine-Compholio to run on the same machine.
Is it as simple as installing it using a different WINEPREFIX?

If I have both installed how do I then configure Pipelight to use the Wine of choice?

Hi Walter,

When you have pipelight installed, you already have wine-compholio installed, as we've added it as a fixed dependency. All regular wine versions are unfortunately not new enough to support pipelight and Silverlight.

Wine-comholio can be installed without problems just parallel to a regular wine version, as its located at a different path. You can find it in: /opt/wine-compholio/bin/wine
(the regular one is in /usr/bin/wine)

Pipelight will currently always use Wine-comholio (the path can be found for example in /usr/share/pipelight/pipelight-silverlight5.1, search for "winePath") - there should be no need to change things, it will always be used (unless you modify config files).

Unfortunately this means that the problem you're experiencing doesn't seem to fixed in WIne-compholio yet: What is it exactly? Probably its a known issue and we can help you with that.

By the way: Wine-compholio consists of wine-1.7.5 with some additional patches on top of it, the full list of patches can be found here: http://fds-team.de/cms/pipelight-compile-wine.html
