Playback is too fast, audio garbled (Ubuntu 13.10

as in summary, audio is garbled and playback runs at hyperspeed, much like flash plugin sometimes does when not working properly with hardware acceleration.

I also tried forcing hardware acceleration to false and embed = false but changing embed resulted in failure to play the video and acceleration had no effect at all.

regenerating the prefix and using the pulseaudio -k seems to have fixed it, but I may need to use this change on an ongoing basis.
