Silverlight will not install in Chrome Browser

So I am using a 64bit 12.04 Ubuntu Asus 1015E-DS03 and using google's Chrome (not chromium). I closed my browser, "successfully" installed pipelight, but it is not working. in About://plugins it is listed as "pipelight error!" Something went wrong, check terminal output.

So I launched Chrome in terminal and this is what I got:

I also checked the plugin folder, nothing. Launched firefox and chromium and the wine loader popped up, then I went into their folders and can't find it in their plugin folders either. So I am stuck and wanted to see if anyone else had this problem..

Hi,

you are missing one of the required packages. Please try to install it with:

sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get --reinstall install wine-mpg2splt-installer

Then restart your browsers.

In Chromium it should work out of the box, for firefox you will additionally have to do the following steps to clear the browser plugin cache:
>Type "about:support" in your address line and hit enter. You should now see a button which opens your profile directory. Click on it and remove the "pluginreg.dat" file in this directory. Restart your browser and check if it works now.

In case one of these steps doesn't work for you please report back.

Hi,

I have really no explanation why your package system is unable to find this one. It is available for download in ehoover's PPA, similar to for example wine-silverlight5.1-installer, which was found in your case - that makes it completely weird.

Theoretically it should definitely work with:

# You should already have executed this command from the pipelight installation, but you can try to repeat it
sudo apt-add-repository ppa:ehoover/compholio

# The following commands should be executed in this order to install wine-mpg2splt-installer
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get --reinstall install wine-mpg2splt-installer
----------------------------

I don't see any mistake in the commands you've written above, but the output should definitely be something different.

As a workaround I would suggest to do the installation manually. For Ubuntu 12.04 = Precise you can download:

https://launchpad.net/~ehoover/+archive/compholio/+files/wine-mpg2splt-installer_0.8.5~precise_all.deb

After the download install this package, either via doubleclicking if a graphical installer is available, or via commandline:
----------------------------
# Switch to the directory where you've downloaded this file (I assume its in "Downloads" here)
cd ~/Downloads
# Do the installation
sudo dpkg -i wine-mpg2splt-installer_0.8.5~precise_all.deb
----------------------------

Please report back if the installation works when using this method.

wow, awesome. So this worked. I really have no idea why this couldn't download on it's own, but this was a very quick and easy fix.

On a side note i had to manually install the package, then i just sudo apt-get install pipelight and it worked perfectly :D
