No streaming video with Chromium?

Asked by Nicola Jelmorini

Hi,

I have installed the Pipelight plugin in my Chromium browser on my Ubuntu 12.04 64bit system.
In the "about://plugins" page I can see that the Silverlight Plugin is correctly installed and activated. The item is:
-------------------------------
Silverlight Plug-In
5.1.20513.0
-------------------------------

I have tried the page you suggested here: http://bubblemark.com/silverlight2.html and I can see the yellow balls that move and bounce around in the square. So far so good :-)

After that, I have tried the other page you suggested here: http://www.iis.net/media/experiencesmoothstreaming where I should see the movie Big Buck Bunny, but that's the problem. I can't see nothing. The only thing I see is the percent of the loading that rises up to 100%, and then nothing.

Is this a general bug, or a specific Chromium issue?
I post this issue here as a question, because I'm not sure that this can be a bug, or a specific Chromium (on Linux?) problem. On your page you show the movie Big Buck Bunny in the Chrome Browser, but Chrome is not exactly Chromium.

If this can help, I can say you that the "compholio wine-browser" installation (Firefox for Netflix, etc.) instead works well, and I can see the movie.

If you believe that this is a bug, let me know, and I will open one.

Thank you

This sounds like the typical error you get when you do not use an user agent switcher. Even the iis smooth streaming website does not work without one. Try to install the user agent switcher mentioned at https://answers.launchpad.net/pipelight/+faq/2351 and check if it works then.

Hi Michael,

you were right!
I have installed the user agent extension for Chrome, and now all works fine :-)
Even the site of Swisscom TV (http://web.tvonline.swisscom.ch/) works very smoothly.

I really thank you for your precious work on this Silverlight plugin.

Regards
Nicola
