integrating Pidgin with Sametime

My company's IM platform is jabber (pidgin or pandion). Pandion doesn't appear to integrate at all with ST, but Pidgin is supposed to do so. I have set up an account in Pidgin using the ST 'transport', used the correct server and my ST password. It seems to have worked....the ST account shows up under "Accounts". But I am repeatedly prompted to 'reconnect', so I guess I'm not connecting. That's my problem to solve. However, the Pidgin issue i have is that when I use List Handler to try to do a local import of the ST Contacts into my Pidgin Contacts (List Handler>Import Generic Buddy List File (.xml) I get an error and Pidgin closes. This pops up at that point:

More Details Provides all this gobblety gook that it won't allow me to copy/paste, but it dose refer to a number of .dll's, depending (it varies for some reason...).

I have Googled and looked around and called both IBM and LSI help desks to no avail so, while I hate to be a bother, this is my last hope
