Can't get installer to display

I'm trying to install v2.2.3 onto my server, but cannot access the installation script. Here is the error I get:

I have tried navigating directly to the install.inc.php file, but get a different set of errors:

I have tried deleting and re-uploading the files and have verified that they are all present. Not knowing much about php, I'm at a loss as to what else could be wrong.

Check your file permissions on the phpns directory - make sure that
files are readable by the server and PHP. Try navigating
to /install/index.php instead of the inc file.

Thanks - turns out I had only half the required files by some method or other. Fortunately one of the missing ones was /install/index.php, so your reply tipped me off :p

My original download came form Softpedia: yours works fine.
