New component (element) added, but no refdes!

Asked by Ian Borg

I've been working on a PCB design off and on for a year or so, and I recently added a component to the layout. The component name /refdes for the new component (C15) is not displaying on the screen (silk layer).
The rest of the layout was originally imported from a gschem netlist. All of their component names are displayed.
A couple of the components have been deleted, the elements modified in the library, and then re-added to the pcb layout. All of their component names displays fine.
Comparing the library file for this element (a radial capacitor with 600 mil lead spacing) to another element's file shows no errors in the file (no extra whitespace, missing quotes, or other syntax errors).
I did not forget to assign a name using the "N" key. Hovering the crosshairs over the component and pressing "N" shows the name I assigned (C15).
I have enables all layers to see if somehow it got put on a layer other than the silk. Nothing.
I've exited the program and reloaded the file, still nothing.
I can hide all the component names and bring them back with the menu. C15 still doesn't show up.
I can hide all the names and display the footprint/package names. The one for C15 doesn't show up.

What am I missing??
