OpenGL problems with RealVNC ?

Asked by Greg Ebert

I'm unable to get PCB to work correctly when running pcb on a linux VNC server. The main GUI for pcb comes up, but the view of the PC board never appears.

If I launch pcb from the native gui (in my case Unity desktop running on 64-bit Ubuntu 14.10), it works fine.
If I launch pcb on a VNC server, and there isnt a user on the main console (in this specific case, a 'headless' 32-bit Ubuntu 12.04 server), it works fine.
If I launch pcb on a VNC server, even when the system is 'headless', pcb does not render the pcb layout view under 64-bit Ubuntu 14.10. Maybe there is a problem with 64-bit Ubuntu 14.10 ?

After some researching, I found that OpenGL apparently is not fully supported thru RealVNC (and perhaps other VNC servers).

Has anyone else seen this problem, and more importantly, how did you work around it ?

vncserver-x11 seems to work on 64-bit Ubuntu 14.10, but it has slower performance and it also leaves my main "console" exposed when I'm working remotely.
