Why can't I just use one password for all my sites?

If someone were to use one password directly for all their sites rather than use Pass the Pie or multiple passwords, if one of their accounts were to be hacked, the hacker would be able to use that password to gain access to that person's accounts. Not only that, but most people use short passwords or a word from the dictionary. These passwords can be hacked in minutes.
