Include a script to convert to EBS backed AMI

Asked by chrism2671

This, if possible, would be a handy addition; which would mean that servers could be persisted through termination, and backed up to S3 via hudson. It would also be good practice if the 'files' folder could be kept separate, on another EBS mounted volume. A script to set all this up from the default pressflow would be handy.

Any thoughts?

We're adding support for EBS-backed AWS servers in Pantheon. I don't expect to see support anytime soon for moving the files folder to an EBS volume, but once setup, Pantheon will not interact with pressflow, so changes you make there will persist.

Hope this helps,

Greg

Greg, I'm also interested in this. Will support for EBS-backed AWS servers be included in the forthcoming 1.2 Mercury release?

Thanks,
Ben

It's already "supported" now. The issue is whether or not we'll maintain an EBS image for people, and given that once you launch you're stuck with that disk size and filesystem (and people have different needs and opinions here) I think the answer may be "no".

Instructions for DIY should be easy to do though.

Can you help with this problem?
