pantheon-filechooser-module: thumbnail previews?

Is it intended that pantheon-filechooser-module will only show the icon or thumnail and not a separate preview panel?

I very much miss having a separate preview panel with a large thumbnail preview.

pantheon-filechooser-module only shows tiny icons next to each file, some apparently are thumnails but are too small to comprehend.

I am running pantheon on archlinux, so it's possible I'm missing something.
