Can I use compact view?

Asked by adam

Can I use compact view like the old days?

I really like the idea of header bar, but quite hate GNOME team to remove tons of good features, including compact view.
Will it be possible to use compact view for files?

IIRC, pantheon files used to support compact view, but I can find it in latest version.

Thanks

At the moment. the elementaryos design team is not persuaded of the need to add another type of view to the three already available.
You could raise a wishlist bug at https://bugs.launchpad.net/pantheon-files or put forward a blueprint at https://blueprints.launchpad.net/pantheon-files, but you would need to make a very strong design case that a compact view would add benefits compared with e.g. using icon view with small icons that would outweigh making the interface more cluttered and complex.

Note that you can make the smallest icon size available in icon view smaller than normal by changing the gsetting org.pantheon.files.icon-view minimum-zoom-level. e.g at the commandline:

gsettings set org.pantheon.files.icon-view minimum-zoom-level small

You will need to restart Files before this has an effect. This will make icon view more compact. It would be possible to tweak the algorithm for spacing the icons a little also but a bug report would need to be raised and considered by the design team.

Change the zoom setting while running Files using <Ctrl>Minus and <Ctrl>Plus or <Ctrl>Scroll.

Can you help with this problem?
