remember forever afp shares password(s).

Asked by Ken

Can saving of the password(s) for afp shares in bookmarks be done? One that remembers forever choice. Right now I can bookmark the shares, but it still asks for username and password 2 times. I would like to have it remember forever the password for any bookmark I create.

Also how does one change the 1 click behaviour to 2 click? I suspect not in your Files 0.2.3 Perhaps I will see if system settings has such an option. not a big deal just a learning curve. Using Elementary Freya.

You can change to two click behaviour by changing a dconf setting. Install and run dconf-editor, navigate to org/pantheon/files/preferences and untick the "single-click" option.

When connecting to smb shares the dialog gives you three options regarding the password: Forget immediately, Remember for the session, and Remember for ever and these seem to work. I do not have access to afp shares to test those but there is at least one bug reporting a similar problem for network drives (#1433213). You could report another bug relating specifically to afp, if you cannot find any similar existing bug, but it will require a developer with access to the right hardware to work on it.

Ok but might be a nice future option for the single click vs double click to add to Files, a settings gear or something.

afp shares brings up the same password options, but it never seems to remember the password or username, so I always have to enter them in, but only on the initial connection. I also bookmark the shares, but that makes no difference, the password is still asked for on initial use.

I didnt yet put in Gadmin Samba and fix the sambe bugs, in smb.conf placing load order to have wins be last in the order, which is a common problem in all linux. You tend to get timeout errors otherwise.

So my particular NAS type drive is Seagate GoFlex Home, which has a mini linux based server in it, but it serves both afp aka Mac shares, as well as smb windows shares. Sadly many times even the smb shares, do not always store username and passwords in the keypass or whatever elementary os uses for its keyring.

There is some resistance in elementaryos to offering too many settings in the interface but I tend to agree that certain key ones would be helpful.

I'll try and find time to look into the password issue in more depth (or some other developer might).

Can you help with this problem?
