Pantheon Files no thumbnails

Asked by T0MuX

Hello !

I have an issue with pantheon-files but I don't really know if it is normal of it is an issue.
I have no thumbnail on any media file (pictures, documents pdf or text, scripts, vidéos etc)...
I would be surprised if thumbnails are not supported by this wonderful new version of ElementaryOS (0.3).

I took a look for tumbler documentation, I seen it was already installed in the system but, if it is installed, why it doesn't generates thumbnails ? I tried some howto but nothing more.

What I tried :
- add '/usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/tumbler-1/tumblerd' or '/etc/xdg/tumbler/tumbler.rc' in the key 'org/pantheon/files/preferences/previewer-path' in dconf
- create a folder by 'mkdir -p $XDG_CONFIG_HOME/tumbler' as said in the tumbler xfce4 documentation

I searched everywhere in dconf and on the web and didn't found more.

Can you help me, please ?

Are the files you are viewing local or on a remote filesystem? At the moment, Files does not thumbnail remote drives (although this is under review). Also Files will not thumbnail the image files under ~/.thumbnails.

There should be any need to make any changes to the default settings. On my system, running Freya 64-bit, the media files you mention are all thumbnailed OK.

Does the Photos app show thumbnails OK?

The files are on a local fs on a ext4 partition (my Home). But good to know that ;)
If everything is working on your Freya, so it means something is wrong with my own. Unfortunately I didn't saw this issue before installing my stuff :/
The Photos app shows thumbnails well.

You can ask me all technical questions / tests to do to me ;)

HOLY CRAP ! I just solved the issue :D

I just got the idea to check the permissions on ~\.thumbnails\ and there was an access denied when I would access it oO
So, just did a 'sudo chown t0mux ~\.thumbnails\ -R' and the issue was instantaneously solved !

Thank you for your investigation and your reactivity to answer.

Bye !
