Can't open sh scritpt files

Asked by Pierre

Dear Staff

I have Freya installed since a week now. I have several folders containing a number of sh scripts, by this I mean files starting with

#!/bin/bash

When I click on them nothing happens, I tried to "open with" editing software other than Scratch, but I can only access those files manually opening them by opening Scratch (or other software) > file > open file > select the script file.

Any reason for that? How can I change this?

Regards
Pierre

Are the files named with a .sh extension? There seems to be a bug in Files at the moment where it does not recognise shell script files as executable unless they have that extension.

However, with that extension, Scratch no longer appears in the "Open with" menu for some reason (you have to use Other Application ... to edit the file with it), although some other text editors like Geany and LibreOffice Writer appear. This seems to be a bug in Scratch.

I have recently proposed a branch for merging that will fix this bug as well as the issue with Scratch (it was a Files bug not Scratch)

Can you help with this problem?
