Pantheon Files startet very slowly since this morning

Hi,

i dont know why, but the App starts only with a delay of 15 to 20 secons after i click the Icon in the Dock.

Are you restoring a view or views of a folder containing a very large number of files perhaps? It can take several seconds to Icon View to display these. Try switching to a folder containing few files before closing Files down and see whether it makes a difference.

i tried this with a lot Folders. e.g. Downloads within 5 files (the biggest size is 20 MByte). But i have another Idea: i have automounted a NAS-Share / SMB Share. Could this produce this bug?

Generally, if i access the filesystem (e.g. to save a scratch file or open an file within in PyCharm IDE) it take the same seconds as i open Pantheon Files. I think, it is a generally Problem of die Desktop - could it?

Hi Daniel

Yes, I checked the code and Files does try to restore views of remote folders as well as local. I think the intention was to not restore remote folders at startup because of the possibility of delaying the opening of Files, but it doesn't seem to have found its way into the code.

I'll raise a bug about this.

A workround might be to close any views of the remote share before closing Files so that it is not restored, or turn off restoring previous tabs altogether (you would need to edit the DConf settings to do this)
