my own client.cfg

Asked by jpkotta

I like to set several options in client.cfg, like big packets and advanced units. I assumed there was no simple way to do it from the origami script. I just made my own with -configonly and copied it to /var/lib/origami/foldingathome/CPU1/client.cfg, gave it correct permissions, etc, and it works. I'm wondering if this is going to break eventually, because there are several config files floating around in /var/lib/origami/. Which one is the "main one"? Are there plans to make this possible from the script?

each CPU*/ should have its own client.cfg, however they are generally the same. I suppose it could be improved to create a single client.cfg and use symlinks, but I left it open for the possibility of someone reporting units as different users/teams per processor. (probably not likely, but possible).

I can't think of any reason that using your own custom client.cfg would 'break' anything, and I would be interested in more advanced options to include. The only reason it is as simple as it is now is that I'm just not familiar enough with the options to include them.

If you would like to submit some additional options or supply me with a good outline of possible options I'd be more than happy to add some of them to origami.

As far as what options to include in the script, I would request the ability to request advanced packets. (They give you more points) You get asked this when you are configuring fah6 with it's -configonly option if you say yes to changing advanced settings.

0.7.4 (just released), provides that option. see http://origami.zelut.org for notes on the update.

0.7.4 is available via git checkout: git clone git://origami.zelut.org/origami.git
or via direct download at: http://origami.zelut.org/download/
