seeking detailed and objective reviews and recommendations for openshot

Asked by Don Spark

I looked for but could not find reviews and recommendations on
http://www.openshotvideo.com
To begin to test and use, I need to see what video experts with more skills, wisdom and experience than I are saying; not just linux users cheering for something better than nothing. Plenty of experts are interested in and review basic and non-professional editors like imovie. We all want a simple fast cutting station. I just don't have much time to experiment. But, I do want to dump the apple corp I am saddled with and join a linux video underground.

I am not a developer or coder. After my video day job, I edit digital guerrilla video by night to "fight the power".

Hi Don,

I'm a regular columnist for the Linux Journal. I've been researching and testing a/v NLEs for Linux, and as soon as I can actually build and run OpenShot I'll review it. I've already profiled LiVES and Kdenlive, now I'm just waiting to find out the magic incantations needed to get OpenShot to work. :)

The Kdenlive forum has some pros giving comments and suggestions. They're coming from the worlds of Autodesk and Avid, they know their stuff, I respect their opinions, and I'm learning much from them. Hopefully OpenShot will gather similar commentators.

Anyway, I'll announce my article as soon as it goes on-line (assuming I get OpenShot working here).

Hi Don and Dave! Thanks for the questions. We really haven't had too many reviews at this point. Also, we really haven't had an official release either. =) I'm working on an improved PPA right now, which will hopefully provide an easier way of installing OpenShot. We are also approaching version 1.0 very soon. Thanks!

Can you help with this problem?
