ppa install

Asked by reinhard

Hi,

and congrats for the ppa-stuff!!

But some packages are going to be removed when I install openshot:

The following packages will be REMOVED
  dvd-slideshow dvdrip ffmpeg libavdevice52 libavfilter0 libavformat52 libmlt++1 libswscale0 qdvdauthor videotrans

OK, I just had to install some packages like qdvdauthor, videotrans, dvd-slideshow,... again, but can you avoid this undesirable uninstall in some way?

greetings

Hello Reinhard,

Many thanks for your comments.

I am not expert enough yet on debian packaging to make a definitive answer on this, but I can make some educated comments. :-)

The reason for the removal of those packages is all to do with how the Conflicts and Dependencies are handled. I have seen a number of comments within Ubuntu forums mentioning that not all packages follow the same standards regarding Conflict and Dependency resolution.

The best expert we have on OpenShot regarding debian packaging is TJ who built our PPA.

I am therefore going to convert this question to a bug report. flag it as a wishlist item, and link it to TJ's
lp:~intuitivenipple/openshot/debian branch.

I am unsure if this will be able to be fixed, because it might simply be a matter of how the Conflicts and Dependencies are declared in those pacckages which are being removed. This seems likely because it is only a small sub-set of the packages which are dependant on ffmpeg which are removed.

Helen
