Any Documentation?

Asked by Jorge Carrillo

Hi,

Your project looks interesting but I can't find anything about how to use OpenShot. Is there any documentation anywhere? If not, I volunteer to do that. I'm an experienced software developer. If you've got anything to show in the app, I can document it.

Jorge

Hello Jorge,

There will be an openshot-docs.deb package on the ppa soon.

I am just in the process of sorting the source structure and make etc to allow it to be built as a package on the ppa.

There is a Gnome Help (yelp) manual in the openshot-docs package, which can be accessed from the help menu in OpenShot.

Best Wishes, Helen

Hi Helen, thank you so much for you almost instant reply!

I have installed the OpenShot 0.9.22 version. I clicked on the help menu in OpenShot. The only item available is an About window that has Credits, License, and Close buttons. No manual. I must not have the right Deb installed or maybe I haven't clicked the right button.

Where can it be?

Thanks and regards,
Jorge

O.K., I think I mis-read your reply. You're saying there will be a help manual in the docs package when it becomes available. I'll just be patient. Sorry.

Hi, i just have discovered OpenShot and wooo it's seems very interesting :) Congrats for this hard work !

Helen, you have posted in FAQ #691: that there is a documentation package called openshot-docs. I have seen it in https://code.launchpad.net/openshot and installed bzr and get the french version of the help. But i don't know how to install it correctly. Maybe i have to only copy the usr/share/gnome/help directory in mine ?

Thanks and regards,

Pepe

Hello Jorge and Pepe

Before I can put the openshot-docs package on the ppa, I need to:

first set up a proper "source" tarball and debian diff file so the package can be built on Launchpad in the ppa.

second work out how to get the Luanchpad translation system to automatically generate templates for it so it can be translated as it is developed.

third I need to translate all of Olivier's input and merge it with mine, to give a well rounded first release.

In the meanwhile you can indeed copy the file tree into your /usr/share tree, and it will work with OpenShot in the Help menu.

There are a few other issues I have found which need ironing out as well, but are not as important as those listed above.

Best wishes, Helen
