Export video options request

Asked by Giorgos Koklas

Hi. I believe that the application is really straightforward to use.
I had no problem importing clips, cutting, adding transitions, layouts, etc.
However when I chose "Export video" options I must confess that I felt overwhelmed
by the number and type of options (all these codecs, formats, etc, that I am not really sure how or when to use). All these are fine for more experts users but I am not sure the "averager windows movie maker or similar applications user (like myself) will know how to use.

So here is my suggestion-request. Would you consider using two tabs/windows/buttons/whatever in the export options dialog?

1st TAB: BASIC --> OPTIONS --> EXPORT FOR WEB (i.e. flash video)
EXPORT FOR DVD PLAYER (PAL, NTSC OPTIONS HERE)
                                                     EXPORT FOR HDTV
and so on with the options being preconfigured by the program itself for common cases such as these.

2nd TAB:--> ADVANCED--> OPTIONS--> all the options for the power user to tweak go here, much like it is right now on the export video dialog.

I hope you will consider this as I believe it would make the app more of an "all-around player" (and me much happier as an end user).

Many thanks for your suggestion Giorgos,

This is an area we will be looking at very soon.

I am going to convert this to a bug report so that it will show up in our wishlist.

I am preparing a Help Manual to help people with this kind of question.

In the meanwhile I have started a table on our Wikipedia page to show the suggested settings for different types of videos.

I have only got a few on the table so far, but it will be updated regularly.

See:

Best wishes, Helen

Giorgos, I agree with you. I think this is a must have feature before we go live. Nobody knows which formats and codecs and bit rates are compatible... We just asking for trouble if that is our default interface. This is high up on the list, and I'll probably start working on it soon.

Before I start, it would be great if the Wikipedia had a good table of supported combinations for me to use. I'll probably wait for that to be completed first. Thanks!
