CPU 100%

Asked by upromis

Hello,

I've sucessfuly instaled openshot. and I've noticed that CPU is 100% in use when i start the program.
Wanted to ask is this normal, even though i don't edit/render anything?
Program runs fine (it imports, and plays). Didn't test it much thoug, because of the CPU load. It rises the temperature, and it's already hot these days.

machine:

cpu: amd Athlon64 3000
os: Ubuntu 9.04 64bit

Hmmmm. I have a similar setup on my PC, and the process jumps to about 10% when OpenShot is starting, but then falls to about 1 to 2% at idle. I would be interested in knowing what happens when you run OpenShot in VirtualBox. Does virtual box go to 100% CPU?

My gut feeling is, this is related to xorg. Please check your processes in the System Monitor, and let me know which processes are contributing to the 100% CPU. If it's "Python", then it might be a bug with OpenShot. If it's "xorg", it's probably due to your graphics driver in xorg.

Thanks,
-Jonathan

here is the report from TOP.

You can see that python is taking about 83% of the cpu. rest of the process are much less. And it goes up to 91%.
I don't have virtualbox installed. I suppose that you want ubuntu installed in virtualbox, well i'll see if i could do that.

python installed:
Python 2.6.2 (release26-maint, Apr 19 2009, 01:58:18)
[GCC 4.3.3] on linux2

the starting message:

I think this is related to the bug report 403154.

403154 complex keyframes can cause the viewer to freeze inplay
https://bugs.launchpad.net/openshot/+bug/403154

Is your processor a single core, or multiple core?

I have just linked this question to bug report 403154

And I have attached a screenshot of my system monitor during launch of OpenShot 0.9.13

The screenshot is on the bug report

Please have a look at this, and let us know if there are any similarities to your problem?

Hello Helen,

I don't think that this is related to 403154 bug. I didn't read the whole thread, but the cpu jumps to 100% immediately after starting openshot. There are no clips imported, the project is empty.

my cpu is AMD Athlon64 3000+ (venice) which is old single core porcessor (socket 939).

I saw in your screen shot that your cpu cores jumps to 100% from time to time, but as a result you always have 100% load. My cpu core is always 100%, and the python process is oscilating between 81% - 91%. If I understood right the screenshot you attached shows the idle openshot with empty project, if that is so then we have the same issue.

I can import clips and play them just fine, with no freezes in audio or video.

Hello Upromis,

You need to read the whole thread of that bug.

You have only read the first part which was where I noticed the problem
first because of a problem associated with the bug.

The bug is to do with something sitting in an active loop somewhere,
consuming processor time. This loop appears to be able to become an
orphan process under particular conditions.
