clip properties dialog box

Asked by reinhard

Hi,

the clip properties dialog box is really helpful, but also a bit bothersome, because it has to be reopened again and again every time the user made some modification ;)

One option would be to have a shortcut for that, but I would like to have it integrated into the ui and that the modifications would be applied in real time - like when changing some settings of the gnome desktop.
What do you mean?

greetings

Good point. I agree with you. I think another option is integrating many of the most common settings into the right click context menu. That would prevent having to always open the dialog to do the most common things. Long term, it might make perfect sense to integrate this into the UI, so it's always on the screen. Thanks!

A similar idea that I had been thinking on:

If we had a seperate compositing window, it could have its own viewing screen for maybe moving a frame around over the full picture size for zooming etc. It would also make it possible for those with two monitors to put that functionality onto their second monitor.

Yeah, that's it Helen!
I'm dreaming of that for a loooong time ;)
But maybe this could be simply integrated into the video preview when in pause-mode?

Jonathan, do you remember the funny mockup I've made on the side I've send you some time ago?
http://www.groovision.de/my_vision_of_how_to_edit_movies.html
I mean the 'Play' widget in the upper right corner of the topmost picture...

So, when in pause-mode, a selcted clip in the timeline is marked in the video preview (might be called e.g. 'composite preview' then) by a dotted rectangle with some handles and could be moved, zoomed, scaled, rotated,... and so on...

Yes, I remember that mock-up. I think it's a great idea. I always imagined a visual way to resize, position, and, animate clips. On a related note, I'm going to add many of these animation and layout settings into the right click menu. I think it will really simplify some complex things.

Such as:

Right Click Menu (just some ideas off the top of my head):
-- Animate
----- Left to Right
----- Top to Bottom
----- Zoom In Slowly
----- Zoom In Quickly
----- Zoom Out Slowly
----- Zoom Out Quickly

-- Resize / Layout
----- Top Left
----- Top Right
----- Center

I think it would be nice to have properties on the main screen. Especially having in mind, that most of monitors now are wide - so we have some horizontal space.

Or, maybe, the properties dialog could be configurable on/off to be on the main screen.

Beeing on the main screen I see most usefull.

Can you help with this problem?
