Is it possible to install OpenShot in French ?

Hi Richard! Thanks for the question. We aren't quite ready for translations yet... although we're really close. Most of the text in OpenShot is not marked as "translatable" yet. Once I get some free time, I'm going to prepare the POT file, and hopefully find some translators. I'll be sure to post some information soon on the blog: www.OpenShotVideo.com.

Thanks for your reply... would you be able to tell already how soon approximately OpenShot would be "translatable" ? Of course it is understandable that it may be difficult to say as you would prepare necessary file on freetime... but it would just be glad to know if it would come in days, weeks or months... I would be happy to participate to the translation in French of the software. If there is any way help can be provided to you on this, let me know...

I would estimate 1 to 2 weeks before it's all ready for translations. Could be sooner... could be later. But that's my best guess. Thanks!

The translation of the application OpenShot in French is still on going...
As indicated here http://www.openshotvideo.com/2009/08/translation-update.html the template for translation has been updated recently... French translation is completed but still need review partly...

I wrote on http://www.openshotvideo.com/2009/08/translation-update.html#comments , I reviewed the French translations, Out of 14 reviews need, I looked at ~7, which are actually already all correct. Just some hesitations such as using Frenglish or 100%French words. I personally encourage Frenglish for computer relate topics such OpenShot.

I'm interested to install the French file to test those translations into their respective context, thus only, further translation improvements will be possible.

To test out any of the translations in OpenShot, follow these steps:

1) Download the .MO file for your translation (from LaunchPad)
2) Place it in the the /usr/local/share/openshot/main/languages/fr_FR/LC_MESSAGES/OpenShot.mo

* Replace fr_FR with the correct culture code
** The file must be named OpenShot.mo (case is important)

3) Run OpenShot... it should be in French now.
4) Alternatively, you can run OpenShot with this command:
 $ LANG=fr_FR openshot
or
 $ LANG=fr_FR python /usr/local/share/openshot/main/OpenShot.py

Soon, I will have some DEB installers for these .MO files, and that should simplify this process.
