Can't open project made with 1.4.3

Projects made with version 1.4.3 don't seem to open with 2.2. According to this: https://github.com/OpenShot/openshot-qt/issues/172
The file format was changed from V1 to V2.

My elderly father spent ages learning openshot and now he can't move to a newer version or he'll lose all his projects. How do I know that projects made with v2 wont also just suddenly stop being supported?
