Blender Executable

Asked by James G. Garner

In openshot 1.4.3 The Blender Path executable is still not working no matter what I type in the box for the Blender Executable. This is not fixed still in 2016. If I type (which blender) in terminal, it gives the path. Which is /usr/bin/blender But Openshot still does not let animated titles work correctly and I get the same old Error. (Error Output - No Frame Was Found In The Output From Blender). I tried the path from my home directory which is /home/james/.openshot/blender and that does not work. I had this problem two years ago and posted it in launchpad but no one has fixed this. I use Openshot exclusively to make my videos but the openshot developer refuses to look into this. The only Openshot that works correctly is the OpenshotBZR that is only offered through the AUR repository but cannot be found in the Ubuntu Software Center. Why does the BZR version work but not the 1.4.3 ?????? Please can somebody fix this once and for all ????? Also, When trying to use the Animated Title (Fly Twords Camera), it still gives the crappy white background instead of the black background. This too is a huge disappointment. But of course, there are no issues with the BZR Version Of Openshot. Openshot also works in AV Linux. But Not Ubuntu. You guys have said it was solved, I've read the threads, But It is not.

Not exactly, it is fixed since the last year in Openshot 2.0 and inded not in 1.4.3. And It will be never fixed for this branch. YOu have done what you coudl do at your level

Because (I think I've not checked) AUR gets the last version with all patchs applied. For Ubuntu, XXLRAY an user have done this . Hovewer, I don't keep the link but I remember that he had opened this version on Github.

With this version when Blender (and it depends of which version you are using) works, not all titles works with it.

Hello Olivier,

The AUR now does not have the working openshotbzr, it must have been updated and I cannot
find any version that will give me a black background when using (fly Towards Camera) in animated Titles.

I did see the 2.0 bzr in the AUR but the install fails and the terminal says it is unable to (Make Pkg).

Just letting you know.

This effort was tried in Manjaro with the Arch Yaourt repositry for openshot 2.0
I also tried with Ubuntu but 2.0 fails and unable to Make Pkg.

I will keep trying.

I get it on Manjaro (an derivated of archlinux) Hovewer, I run a lot of issues that I don't have on Linux Mint 17.2.
HUm but you must active aur with pacman (the slider on the left) Perhaps it was, for me, because I was using the cinnamon community edition.

Try to Linux mInt. At first look, on the same version( i.e 14.04 ) people who use Linux mint have no problems contrary with Ubuntu. Probably Unity.
Use this ppa for getting libopenshot :
https://answers.launchpad.net/openshot/+faq/2733
Get the openshot code to github. Be aware the code is update every day or two.
Run by python3 src/launch.py

BTW we have moved our development plateform from launchpad to github for the openshot-qt 2.0 version so it will be nice and better for us to manage all bugs of the openshot-qt version here.
Thanks James.

Thank you Olivier,

I will try all the info you have given.
PS: I found that AV Linux Bulldozer, openshot works fine, however, it comes
with openshot 1.4.4-1 Alpha1 bzr Just letting you know.
However, AV linux is sort of a different Debian like RedHat and I am not
too well versed with .RPM, Redhat & such, only Arch & Ubuntu based systems.
I will try what you said and get back with you later in the week.

Thank you for your patience in answering my letters. I will note the new
github platform for 2.0

Thank you,

James

Ah Thanks. I was not aware that AV linux was still alive since Glen is back. And with the 14.4.1 Alpha bzr.
Great news. But if my memory is still good, she was based on Debian and LXDE.

Yes, it's Debian, and there are glitches with it, like when I try to install software
through the Terminal it says I am not in the Sudoer's visudo List. But I made separate passwords upon install.

I'm not very knowledgeable with Debian, everything is so Security Tight and I do not have
time to learn yet another distro right now but I'm using openshot for now with it. Personally, it would be a real nice
Distro if they wouldn't make it so complicated.

For the Libopenshot, I was able to install the key successfully and installed Libopenshot, but I'm not sure if it was the 2.0

I did add the PPA for 15.10 Wily as well. But I am lost in how to open Libopenshot. I am guessing it's a Terminal
based ran program. I am also lost in what Python3 src/launch.py is for, except to launch it. But it will not.

I am tending to think I will have to wait until openshot is updated through the AUR or through the Ubuntu
Repositories. Or just use the 1.4.3-1.1 with the annoying White background when using Fly Towards Camera in Animated
Titles. I really wished it was not so.

I even went as far as converting Openshot 1.4.4-1 Alpha1 to a Deb File with Alien. It converted and install but would not
open due to some issue with MLT. I give up.

AV linux seems to be the only Distro with a glitch free regular Openshot, but I hate Debian. I'm using Ubuntu Mate 15.10 64 bit
just so you know, but having the same issues with Openshot on Manjaro xfce 64bit since it's the same version software.
The reason why I am upset is because I was using Openshot exclusively to produce my YouTube Videos. I could make a Live DVD from
Ultimate Edition 2.6 Lucid, Openshot works on that also because that ISO has an Alpha openshot already pre-installed.

but as you know that's all I'll be able to do
without support, so I'm not going there.

Looks like I'll use AV until openshot puts out an updated Graphical version. Sad is it not?

J.

Yes,

Was able to add PPA, installed the key as well. But could not open Libopenshot.

This is a terminal based application correct? Python3 src/launch.py did nothing.

Libopenshot is back-end software, the core engine of Openshot-Qt like MLT was the core engine of Openshot 1.4.x.

Did you have done what I was saying in the post #4 ? i.e >>>Get the openshot code to github. Be aware the code is update every day or two.

Once time you get it here (https://github.com/OpenShot/openshot-qt)>>in a command line (git clone https://github.com/OpenShot/openshot-qt) you must open a terminal in the src folder and type what I've already said in the post #4
python launch.py

Hello Olivier,

I am using Ubuntu Studio 15.10 64-bit now. I had enough of AV linux.

I must say it was not so easy. I obtained the Openshot daily Deb PPA code for Ubuntu 15.10 Wily
From

https://launchpad.net/~openshot.developers/+archive/ubuntu/libopenshot-daily

I added both ppa codes to my source list.

After that, I reloaded my updater and then Libopenshot was available in my Synaptic package
manager in which I installed along with openshot-qt and a couple other files.

Then tried to find the src folder but could not.
I then went back to Synaptic and found the directory of openshot-qt py file
located in /usr/bin/openshot-qt

Needless to say the py command you gave (python launch.py)
nor the commands of

$ cd /home/USER/openshot_qt
$ python3 src/launch.py

from
https://github.com/OpenShot/openshot-qt

Did not work, obviously since the location of the Py file was in /usr/bin

I may not be a pro developer, but I do have some skills.

With this being said, I was able to Launch & Run Openshot-qt 2.0

By going to $cd /usr/bin
then entering the command
bin$ sudo openshot-qt

However, Animated Title (Fly Towards Camera 2-titles) and many other choices still have
that Dreaded (white screen background). And not the desirable Black Background
that I am wanting. It's not fixed.

There was also an error in the Terminal when using openshot-qt

Error is as follows:

logger:ERROR 'AnimatedTitle' object has no attribute 'actionDetailsView'

I'm going to try installing an older BZR Alpha Version if I can find the Tar.gz file
Any ideas when the 2.0 will officially be available through the updates? This has been very frustrating
for me all year. Thanks for trying to help.

Regards
James
