normalize volume in MP4 (video clip)

With the 1.4.3 version (Stable version) you can't do that.
With the 2.0 version (Development version ) you could do that.

So for the moment the only solution I see is to use Audacity.

Audacity normalizes without extraction of an audio file?

Yes you can do that, I've done another analogue operation with a Vob of
Bilbo recently.
