Could NOT find FFMPEG (missing: FFMPEG_LIBRARIES FFMPEG_INCLUDE_DIR)

Asked by Dan H

I've been trying to install openshot 0.0.5 and it shows an error.
Could NOT find FFMPEG (missing: FFMPEG_LIBRARIES FFMPEG_INCLUDE_DIR).
I have FFMPEG installed from synaptic, but I guess it's not finding it. What do I do to remedy this?
Thanks

Openshot 00.5 ?

The last stable version of Openshot is 1.4.3.
After you have the developpment version but you don't have a number (only the 2.0.)

If synaptic told you that you don't have ffmpeg installed.
You should take a look at this faq : https://answers.launchpad.net/openshot/+faq/1040

Did I mention I am using Mint 17.2 64 bit for my OS? Not precise. Will the last update on the FAQ page work for me?
Thanks

Sorry for the delay, I was busy at home.

No. Any way, you can't install it (i.e on Precise). Even if Libopenshot can be install (theorically) on Mint 17.2/14.04 (which is a LTS with a support for 5 years), I've not been able to install it on my mInt 17.2 because of a library of FFmpeg. And even I 'm using the true version by the mc3man ppa.

Only Jonathan can answer to this question..................

Thanks Olivier for giving it a go. Maybe you can push this up the line to Jonathan , or does he ever do anything on the app anymore? I hope something will be done with the problem soon. I'm going to leave this open in hopes Jonathan takes a look at it. I know you and I are not the only two with Mint 17.2.
Thanks

No worries. Even if Jonathan doesn't answer to our development platform , at first look, he reads all. ( I hope).
Crossed fingers for making this modification. Also this library is not in the pdf...

This is what I get with Synaptic Package Manager. Should I be using something else? Where can I get libopenshot?

libopenshot-audio1:

Package libopenshot-audio1 has no available version, but exists in the database.
This typically means that the package was mentioned in a dependency and never uploaded, has been obsoleted or is not available with the contents of sources.list

This is the old version. you must get libopenshot-audio3 i.e the 0.06 version instead of the 0.03 version.

Use this faq https://answers.launchpad.net/openshot/+faq/2733

This Faq's could be useful too :

Hi Olivier,
I put the PPA in the sources. No updates at all from there at all. I just installed the libopenshot-audio3. I have another problem too. I uninstalled the old version and now I have nothing in the menu to bring openshot up. I also tried to reinstall the old version. Now it says I'm missing a bunch of other files. I thank you for all of the help.

Hi Dan,

You can reinstall the old version for the moment. Normally, dependencies are installed automatically. I've checked on faq's but I've not created one. But there are several years, I've created one on our forum but I've not keep the link. You should take a look at http://openshotusers.com/forum/.

You must install libopenshot too after.

Anyway, Jonathan has told us Friday that some news versions will be update on Launchpad and on git soon.

This one could help you to reinstall the old version (i.e 1.4.3) http://openshotusers.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=12&t=1060

Thanks

No libopenshot is not a obligation, only for testers. I'm going to see
with Jonathan where are blocking issues with libopenshot on MInt/Ubuntu.
Stay tuned. Perhaps, I 'll do a blog entry for that.
