*.jpg is not accepted to be added to videos

I added a video to the timeline - next a picture - *.jpg - was not accepted - in the preview-window it says "invalid"

Strange.

I've just add a picture in jpg without any problem.
Did you get the following message"Do you want to add it like image sequence" ? Answer no and that all. After it is like another clip (i.e audio or video)

i added an image to project then deleted the image in its folder after that video preview says it is invalid.
hopefully you were not as stupid as me
