Export video loses audio. How can I export both video and audio for an mp4 file?

Asked by Bill Roberts

I imported an mp4 video, used the razor tool to separate out the part that I wanted to cut, deleted it, previewed the resulting video which contained both audio and video. Then I exported the file to an mp4. The new mp4 did not have audio - only video. What can I do to get a clip with both?

I too had the issue when upgrading from Ubuntu 14.04 to 14.10. I had too many issues with 14.10 and decided to move to Elementary OS Freya bu tI was able to fix this issue by upgrading MELT by using the the PPA for Kdenlive here: https://kdenlive.org/download-ubuntu

The issue is not with Openshot, it is with MELT package...

Give it a try...

I have Ubuntu 14.10 and Openshot 1.4.3
I added the kdenlive repository and gave the update/install commands, per the link above.

THIS DOES NOT SOLVE THE PROBLEM.

The problem is;
Openshot will not compile the audio with the video. The source file is mp4. All I want to do is attach a title slide to the a/v file recorded from video camera. When "export" is chosen, Openshot compiles. But the resulting mp4 file has NO audio component: no codecs, nothing at all. Openshot will play the "project" when I want to preview in Openshot, but no audio is compiled with the video.

Any help available? Thanks.

ps, did not have this problem under ubuntu 14.04.

THIS IS HOW TO SOLVE THE PROBLEM.........

Use Synaptic...
[if you have not, then install Synaptic from Ubuntu Software Centre app]

1/ install ALL codecs shown in Synaptic search

2/ add the ppa [this ppa has the deb files you need for mlt] [from link in previous post above]

ppa:sunab/kdenlive-release

do NOT install kdenlive [not needed].

3/ after you add the ppa, the "libmlt" should show in Synaptic search results.

install ALL the mlt files

4/ after all above, now you install the Openshot app.

do not install Openshot before you add the mlt libraries and codecs.
this was my problem. I installed the mlt after openshot.

THE OPENSHOT TECHIES SHOULD INFORM US WHAT DEPENDENCIES ARE NEEDED AND WHAT MUST BE INSTALLED BEFORE OPENSHOT.

Can you help with this problem?
