When adding a file, why can't I get thumbnail views instead of file detail view in folders I am looking for files to add?

When adding a file, why can't I get thumbnail views instead of file detail view in folders I am looking for files to add?
With thumbnails I'd be able to see what the pictures are otherwise its a crap shoot.
Could this be added to Preferences?

This sounds like a preference on your file browser. I can switch between "details" and "thumbnail" on the default Ubuntu file browser. What Linux distro are you using? and what file browser?
