can you make the cut and resize tool work like the format painter button in writer/word?

In a word processing program, when using the format painter button, you can enable it two ways:
a single click lets you use it one time and then it defaults back to normal mode or you can double-click it and it will stay in that mode until you click it again.
I think that would be a great idea for the cut and resize tools. usually I only need it to cut one item and then need selection mode right after. I think it would be great if these buttons worked like the format painter button because it would allow use in continuous mode OR single use mode to accommodate each user's style or requirements.
