what file extension will play on my dvd player?

Asked by MeeMaw

I'm really enjoying OpenShot and learning a lot! I'm trying to create a dvd that will play on the tv using my older vcr/dvd combo player and I need to know what format to export it to so my player will play it without deciding it's going to malfunction. My player is an Emerson Model EWD2004. Can I use mpeg?
Thanks!

You will need to export as mpeg2 from Openshot and then use some DVD authoring software like Bombono to make the DVD with menu and stuff.

So if my dvd player will play mpeg, then can I just play it without the dvd menu and stuff? or do I have to do something else to make it playable?

Hi MeeMaw,
Yes but just with a mpeg file, you should run it manually. It is why either you must use with it a Dvd authoring tool for creating a dvd played automatically in your player either create a iso image in console.
Here a short list of Authoring tool available : http://openshotusers.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=27&t=222&p=821#p821
You are not obliged to create a menu.
