cannot install latest release ppa using terminal

Asked by Myles Thomson

Hi, I'm new to the Linux world.

I like your program and want to use the latest stable release, but the Software Centre only has 1.4.0 version.
I tried typing in the commands verbatim in Terminal for installing ppa on Ubuntu 12.04, as directed by your web site.
"sudo add-apt-repository ppa:jonoomph/openshot-edge sudo apt-get update sudo apt-get install openshot openshot-doc"

After entering my password, I get "Error: need a repository as argument"

Is there something that I am missing?

Thanks and kind regards,

Myles

Try entering this in your Software Sources:

ppa:openshot.developers/ppa

Thank you for your time.
I have now worked out what I was doing wrong.

I instaled Openshot 1.40 through my Ubuntu 12.04 Software Center.
It does not work satisfactory and I need to uprade to 1.4.3. What is the simplest procedure to do so?
Please can you explain what you mean by entering ppa:openshot.developers/ppa in your software source.
Where can find my sftware source?
I am not familiar with the way of working with Terminal in Ubuntu and feel a little frustrated
Tthank you in advance

Instead of typing this command in Terminal: sudo add-apt-repository ppa:jonoomph/openshot-edge
instead, type: sudo add-apt-repository ppa:openshot.developers/ppa
Press <ENTER> and wait for terminal to get PPA
Type: sudo apt-get update
Press <ENTER> and wait for Terminal to update
Type: sudo apt-get install openshot openshot-doc
Press <ENTER> and Terminal will install Openshot 1.4.3
